Eva Skillgate is a professor of Health Care Science at Sophiahemmet University, and a professor of Epidemiology with focus of musculoskeletal problems at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. She holds a Master in Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology from Karolinska Institutet. Professor Skillgate is the founder and leader of the research group Musculoskeletal and Sports Injury Epidemiology Center (MUSIC), is the Director of Research Education, and teach regularly in research methods with focus on clinical epidemiology and interventional studies.

By performing several extensive randomised controlled trials, professor Skillgate has contributed to the scientific evidence for the effect of manual therapy, on back and neck problems. Also, by performing several high-quality cohort studies, she has contributed to deepen the knowledge about risk factors for disabling back and neck pain. In the field of sports medicine, she has led studies on injury risk and prevention of injuries in young athletes. Her current research includes the comorbidity of mental problems and chronic pain.
